Data Retention

JTA CPA retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including providing professional services, complying with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and professional obligations, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and maintaining required business records.

Retention Guidelines:

  • Tax & Financial Records: As a general rule, we retain tax returns, workpapers, and supporting documentation for a period of seven (7) years from the date of filing, in alignment with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) statute of limitations and professional liability standards.

  • Permanent Records: Certain core documents, such as final copies of tax returns and year-end financial statements, may be retained indefinitely for historical reference.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and applicable requirements under federal and state law, professional standards, and contractual obligations.

Secure Disposal: When personal information is no longer required to be retained, we take rigorous steps to securely delete, destroy, or anonymize it in a manner designed to prevent unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. This includes the permanent erasure of digital files from our encrypted storage systems and the professional shredding of any physical records.
